Prof. Dr André Mastmeyer: Virtual Reality Simulation of Needle Puncture Interventions and beyond - Perspectives in Research and Teaching Formats using Extended Reality (XR) in Medicine

Abstract

The Virtual Reality technology (VRT) known from the entertainment industry is gaining ground in serious topics. Since VR simulators have been used in airline pilot training, the development of simulations has also become more and more popular in the medical field in recent years. Especially, personalized VR simulation of moving patient models for training and planning minimally invasive needle interventions have been researched by the speaker. Based on methods of image analysis and image synthesis of medical image data, timedynamic virtual anatomy models are obtained from 4D volume image data in an analytical modelling process and synthesized to a visuo-haptically immersive representation for the user. At the end of this talk, the audience will be informed, which methodological approaches of Computational Anatomy and Physiology Modeling (breathing) and VR simulation techniques are in the speakers portfolio to achieve therapeutic or learning success and where the perspectives of the speakers works currently lie.
